Now this looks cool for only $99 a year
« on: October 17, 2014, 02:21:28 pm »
haven't looked into it to hard but for only $99 a year from what I can tell at this point this is very awesome...
It is basically what you all are doing here just you can't use any assets from other titles just would have to create your own. With as much time that is spent on the emulation part I could see this being a rather decent alternative... anyway just that it was cool and wanted to share it here =D

what you all think :)?

Doesn't really appeal to me. What makes this more up our alley than a more popular engine? Unreal is cheaper, well established, has a massive community, and has been industry-proven hundreds of times with dozens of AAA titles.

Let's compare Hero Engine and Unreal:

Hero Engine is $99 per year
Unreal Engine costs $20 - that's it

Hero Engine demands 7% revenue
Unreal Engine only asks for 5%

Hero Engine source code is $75,000
Unreal Engine source code is FREE

Granted, I haven't actually read much into Hero Engine, but this is my first time hearing about it and first impressions don't get any worse than this. The asking price is disgustingly hoggish in comparison to other engines and I'm curious to know if all that extra cost is worth it.

Though can't say I wouldn't like to learn more. It's geared towards MMOs yes?

Btw the graphics in the games they showcase are garbage. I'd surely hope the engine is capable of doing better than that.

Graphics is really quite garbage, but i saw there SW:TOR, one of the best MMOs I ever played, and I wouldn't say it has bad graphics at all. But I have to admit, that if that showcase on mainpage is "the best of", it looks kinda scary.

Isn't this basically already out? DoTA 2 upgraded to it recently and the workshop uses it. I guess the actual development kit is not available yet.

For me one of the more appealing things about WoW and its engine are:

- Graphics and art that look good without being demanding. As long as you follow/mimic Blizzard's art direction with your custom content, it'll look great
- Excellent atmospheric capabilities that make it easy to make a zone look and feel just right
- Really tight, fluid combat system

Configuring a different engine to get just the three above points right is a lot of work, particularly when it comes to look and feel, and if you neglect these points you'll end up a bland, generic looking game with awkward-feeling combat.

Its only a map/mod Editor for Dota 2, so you cant make other things with this source 2 editor  atm.

We were using HeroEngine for our game and best thing on it is you pay a they give you complete infrastructure (servers, database etc.) hosted by them and it's optimalized for their engine.

But we went from HE to Unity Engine a developing of game gets faster. HE has many many problems why we left it.

I worked with Unity Engine for about 3 years and now I've worked with Unreal Engine for 1 year and you know what Unreal > Unity.

Support is sublime for Unreal Engine as well.
