Hej Folks,
don't be surprised if this posting slightly varies from schlumpf's usual postings - it's not him posting but it's da me, tazjin (http://modcraft.io/memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=1179).
As some of you might be aware the world's largest gaming convention, the GamesCom, is currently taking place in Germany. Since both schlumpf and I live there we decided to attend it after my mother's wedding (yes, this part is entirely unimportant to the actual subject).
We also decided to print t-shirts that have
name
<#wow.dev>
on the front and the NoggIt logo on the back, just because fuck you. I paid a little over 60€ for that but it was well worth it.
At the GamesCom we 'accidentally' stumbled upon Blizzard who, after a very interesting StarCraft II match (the Zerg always wins), decided to hold a signing session with several executives and developers including people such as Tom Chilton and Frank Pearce.
Guess what we got them to sign?
Here's a picture:

Even though most of them didn't seem to know what they were signing (they certainly recognised it was the Noggenfogger icon) at least the last one (he looked a little like a dwarf but we couldn't see his nametag because some hysterical fat fan was jumping up and down right before it) definitely recognised what NoggIt was and leaned in to his colleagues to start talking about us.
Then we left. Mission complete.

What did he lean in to say ? xD

Wait, so he actually know what NoggIt is? How did he manage to do that and do they think it's ok that we're actually modding WoW?
Just some questions that popped up in my head.

In Mike Morhaime's Lecture (3 hours of him talking) - He said that he condone modding to a degree where it doesn't ruin the TOS gameplay (TOS = The agreement that secures that the client is allowed service) - And that he always loves to see player-based creations and it is a great thing to see the community build up content with the passion that they have for blizzard games.
He does not condone people who exploit with modding, or alter the EULA, so basicly he likes the fact we mod. He doesn't like the fact that we make money from it. :P
-
So if it's "legal" do make own maps or models for wow, why don't they release a development kit for the community? :'(
-
My first guess is that they simply do not give too much of a shit about modding. Sure, Mike Morhaime likes modding but Blizzard's tool team may have divided opinions. I believe they are too focused on making money from retail and wouldn't bother to create something like that if it didn't give them profit.
Though, it would be nice if Blizzard released an editor similar to the War3 editor, but Wow is an online game...

No it's because the wowedit actually isn't only for wow :P and actually they did say that the day wow longer is no longer in the development anymore, they'll release a dev kit.. :P - Sadly (for us) Wow seems to be neverending, because chris metzen said he had 5-6 more stories to fill out expansions with :D
-
Doing it again this year? :D

Doing it again this year? :D
Would be a similar question from me.
-
I can't really see a reason to do so. Also, I am not near cologne this year.

...5-6 more stories to fill out expansions with :D
*5 more expansions later*: "Look it dropped an epic weapon! Damn, it only has 435462556623 DPS...

Blizzard wanted to do a number crunch and get things back to a reasonable state, but the overall community denied such a change and campaigned against it, so they went with the 'normal' increase for this expansion.
I very much doubt we will see yet another expansion of high numbers.
