I was able to open it once and did some edits. need to go back and fix some stuff and set anim to fly walk. but when i try and load up template again i get

Maybe not on the internet, but it says so quite clearly in the menus of the program itself. Funny what a little bit of exploring and trial and error might yield, huh?
And there's zero difference between clicking run template and pressing F5 in 010 editor. F5 is merely a shortcut though your post seems to suggest otherwise.
