Title: [SHOWOFF] Flying Lotus Mount
Post by: inico on June 05, 2015, 08:15:24 am
Hello everyone! I'm working on a flying lotus mount. The texture was painted by hand. It was one of the vast number of projects that I left unfinished but decided to continue today (I get bored easily, so i leave almost everything unfinished).

In-game screenshots soon i guess (unless i find something more fun to make).

Hope you like it!

What tool do you use for creating animated models? Looks awesome, man.

I used 3Ds Max for modeling and Photoshop + graphics tablet for texture painting. For animations I usually use 3ds Max, Mdlvis and PyModelEditor. Glad you liked it!

yeah! Another cool model from you, man. BTW i like the book mount more than this. But of course it's just my opinion.

So maybe you can give us some hints on how to get anims from 3ds max to mdlvis. I think it would be helpful for many members. And Skarn will add it to his tutorial.

You can use a plugin like NeoDex (http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/modeling-animation-276/neodex-2-7-wc3-modeling-kit-3dsmax-gmax-115767/) to export models from 3dsmax to Warcraft 3 and open them in MDLVIS. The main problem is that some animation keys are lost or get screwed during the process so you need to "repair" them manually with notepad and MDLVIS. Also, all animations need to be linear.
Animating is a long, painful process at least for me. Now consider that it's even harder to import a custom animation into wow. i try to avoid animating as much as possible.

I repair animations in pymodeleditor. It is easier there. I've just heard some stuff about you that you're using some better software for your models and not willing to share it. Now I see that it was wrong. Good job. It is sad that no one has found a better conversion way.

Yes, i use PyModelEditor a lot, but it has its problems too (for example, i am limited to around 10 modifications per model or it corrupts the m2 file, so my method was to modify the model a little bit, save, close, reopen and repeat).
What i had said previously was that i stopped using mdxtom2 for my custom models (also i said i own an unreleased version of mdlvis who has some bugfixes and wotlk beta support, maybe people misunderstood that and thought i own a magical program or something similar).
Anyways, i always manage to make my models work. There are lots of methods you can use, but i don't think there is a secret tool or something.
Thanks for your comments :D

Could you share this mdlvis tool? Also there is question then. How do you get your models into m2s if you're not using the MDXtoM2 thing.

I use the tools i mentioned above. I don't think it's neccesary to upload it, i mean, not every person has wrath of the lich king beta installed, also, i don't know what kind of bugfix Alexei applied before disappearing. I can send you the program via PM if you really need it. (edit: again, i mean mdlvis 1.41, i dont have a magical program lol)

EDIT: decided to upload the program:
