- You are considiring to add own area IDs and link them to the adt to get own names for your zone.
So my meening is... absolutly. You creat an own zone and this need own names, minimaps, map and everything else that belongs to a own zone. Also music map and many things else are linked over area ids so own are also technical needed.
So a big YES ;)

There is no changes to the zones but is seperate to the orginal 531 = Blizzard zone 1242 = recreation with no changes. i made Map.dbc link to the orginal one. but as i stated the blizzard zone has a maps so why not rename the existing zones to adapt to the new ID.
531 - Zone + maps (changed to new names for 1242)
1242 - Zone + Purpose for new name due to having no maps.

So you wont to have a copy of the map?
Then you have to copy and rename the files also, then you can change your DBC entry and you have a full copy.
My opinion is to always use new IDs and files and never just swap or overwrite stuff.
If I want to retexture a model i copy to have also the original. Same with maps.
