How to Make MPQ Patch?

I'm following this guide to make a custom login screen http://www.ac-web.org/forums/showthread ... usic/page2  

I'm finished and just need to put it in a mpq patch but I don't know how. I googled it and downloaded this mpq editor thing but I can't find any information anywhere on how it works.

I tried improvising for around an hour clicking every button that exists but so far I haven't figured it out. I click new mpq archive and then put the background.blp (the login screen) as the file name but it doesn't show up it just shows listfile? Anyways I tried saving it and renaming it .mpq and I put it in my wow cilent data folder but it didn't work. I've tried many other things but I give up can someone tell me how this mysterious thing works?
