[RELEASE] Prodecural Water (Cata Water) to 3.3.5
<< < (5/7) > >>
mrAnomalyy:
Big thanks!
Laduguer:
Hey guys, any insight on how to fix the brightness issue of the water yet? It still looks way better than vanilla water, but the brightness and intensity of the colour is a real shame!
I don't know where to look, myself. Could it be something in the light-relevant dbcs? Or an issue with the water texture itself?
Milly:
It's the textures. And the brightness isn't even the only issue. This water still contains the old WotLK water on top of all of the procedural textures. It's a mess really. I tried Helnesis's water once and turned it off right way, it looked so bad especially with my darker nights mod. I think he just copy and pasted the procwater data that Blizzard was testing, without making any edits of his own to make it look better. No offense. I'd personally rather have 3.3.5a water.
But despite this, it IS fixable.. Try opening up LiquidType.dbc and experiment with some things. Rather than using Helnesis's water try checking out the original dbc file and see how it works. Take note of the Procedural Water that Blizzard already has in there. Figure out which textures it uses and why. Edit them, delete them, experiment. I made my own water in a few hours that looks almost just as good as Cata water, with none of the aforementioned issues.
Shelldon:
Was really impressed with what you have done with this water. After few my own edits I came to conclusion that I can get good result only by the replace of proceduralOceanDepthTex texture file which is not really good decision because of losing few effects of water. Did you make an edit of this texture column or I just wasn't attentive enough?
Milly:
Nope you don't wanna touch that, it's what gives the water all of its characteristics. Without that the water doesn't calculate transparency, depth, or color. (for instance, check out what it does to the water in Bloodmyst Isle).
Hmm okay. It's actually the basicReflectionMap.blp. This should come as no surprise to you because light coming off of an object is merely a reflection, yes? And in this case it's way too extreme.
And then if you check in one of the columns towards the end you'll find some data from the WotLK water. It says ocean_h.%d.blp or lake_a.%d.blp. These are the old textures. You might not normally see it but it still appears when viewing the surface from underwater, and also in the reflection from moonlight/sunlight.
Anyway I'll release my water, and you'll be able to see exactly what I did. But on a separate topic. Give me a few.
