If you want to talk you can also join our IRC channels on quakenet.org. For general talk, join the channel #Modcraft, for talk on Noggit, join #Noggit.
For questions on IRC / Quakenet, see their FAQ.

Anything that is not self hosted does not have a proper history and linking to accounts. I dislike using some external service, where someone random may just join with my name, being embedded into this site, suggesting actually being me.
Gamh:
Quakenet actually has an account system and plenty chan/account flags to protect you from being impersonated.
The only "problem" is indeed that you can't access logs unless you're logged in 24/7. Still it's doable by using a distant server as IRC client and connecting to it via ssh - that's what i do (well, not now because irl) and it's great, but a bit overkill to only have logs ;)

Most IRC web clients are also a horrible experience or even java based. Additionally, IRC is overkill and not suited to be a website shoutbox, as one has the whole overhead of channels, other users, is relying on others.
And on user names: schlumpf is taken. Anything else is _not_ the same as on the site, thus does not have any use. Also, phpBB allows names that IRC does not allow.
Any system, that is not under full control of us is not useful and won't get my vote.
Gamh:
Ah, misunderstood that you were searching for something to embed to the site and not a separated system. Can't help there.
