[Question] 1.12 Race to Race swap.
(1/2) > >>
Method:
Hey There Modcraft.
This is my first post on this board but I'm a regular on both Ownedcore and AcWebs boards.
Background
This has been a huge problem for a really long time (Years), and I wondered if any of you guys could help me out.
You see, everyone always 'says' there's a Race to Race swapping guide for 1.12.1 (The Vanilla version every vanilla server uses) YET on every website there doesn't seem to be ONE complete, cohesive guide that contains all of the tools (Functioning links to tools) as well as an in-depth guide on how to perform race swaps from A-Z.
A while back, some really cool and generous dude gave me a Troll Male>Blood Elf male MPQ over Ownedcore before messages were soft-deleted, (I forget his name otherwise I would credit) yet he didn't explain HOW he made it, what tools he ACTUALLY used and in WHAT ORDER he used them, so I was stuck with the file I wanted, but NOT the knowledge behind how it was made, this also applies to many releases across multiple sites, with swappers releasing content and never explaining how they achieved it. (For instance, Ownedcore has a FemTroll>FemBelf, but despite people asking, nobody knows the process behind it.
The Problem with Race Swapping in Vanilla
Every time someone makes a thread like this they are soullessly redirected to the 'many' other (frankly, non-existent) threads that have:
"achieved this before, it's not hard,"
That's not fun at all, especially when people like me spend countless weeks ctrl+f'ing forum threads for ANY kind of explanatory post which often turns into a fruitless treasure hunt for something that seems incredibly rare.
Vanilla swapping is NOT the exact same as 3.3.5 swapping as many of the tools are incompatible and many of the filetypes are different, but the thing is, it is more than possible, and BC and Cata models/races CAN be backdated to vanilla, the problem is, like I've said, there's no real guide, just scraps of information.
What I actually want to do is, convert Male Gnomes to High Elf males from BC and Troll Males to Blood Elf Males, I'd pay for the MPQ, but I really want to know how to MAKE them instead, and I'm sure others would too.
In Short Does ANYONE have concrete knowledge on how to perform a race swap in 1.12 vanilla that:
Uses 1.12.1 files included with the base client (for instance, Gnome>Human transfer) Uses BC alpha/live/beyond files directly compatible with 1.12.1. (for instance, Gnome>Blood Elf transfer) Uses Files that are beyond 1.12.1 compatible, and require to be converted. (For instance Troll>HDorc) Thanks guys. :)
Method:
I take by the lack of response that nobody really wants to explain, or people with the knowledge to explain are in no way a vast commodity.
This was my last-ditch attempt of getting this information, so, I guess I should give up.

Hi !
The recipe is the same. You edit DBC file (which are databases used to link a race with its models, textures, and other related stuff) to change, for your race, which file it's "pointing" to. You want to make the race Gnome pointing to the High elf files instead of the original files. You can use modern DBC editors, like Taliis, for your 1.12 edits because the DBC organization is almost the same.
Now, the next problem is the files. If it's an 1.12 race then the files are already in the game. Otherwise..
-Alpha BC races : you can take them for the client and use them
-BC races : you have to convert the BC m2, you can use M2TBC (a little BC <=> Classic converter)
-Cata races : You need strong knowledge in C++ to make something good. No one ever converted Cata races to vanilla. NO ONE. It's not about folliowing a couple of tutorials.. more like dozens. The easiest way if you have absolutely not knowledge in programming is probably to study a couple of years Computer Science in your nearest university, so I recommend you to forget about Cata Worgens & Goblins. Be sure I'm as much disappointed as you are.

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it :)
However, Could you elaborate on this?
So, I install Tallis. I use Tallis to make male gnomes files "Point?" to High Elf files.
What is the process of pointing? and is this as simple as it sounds?

To the best of my knowledge, that is the BC alpha client right? The friends and family Alpha?

Any idea where I would get this tool? I found this a file on Ownedcore but I can't link to it since I don't have five posts here yet.

Let's just forget about these then for now, that's jumping into the deep end before I can even swim.

I'm afraid I can't help you as I don't remember the details of the procedure. You're looking for a Race Swap tutorial using DBC editing, I think it's common.
Concerning the m2tbc.exe converter, he was posted by Soluhe in a 3dstom2 rar here : viewtopic.php?f=37&t=3845&p=32477#p32477
