Try to fist copy&place a wmo and then import your wanted wmo.

Copping a tree first works for me.

copy and past any big wmo first in any map or even in your own map then you can add any big wmo

I did the copy and paste at GM Island fine, when i go back to my map, it still crashes.

-- Edit
My mistake, thought you meant to copy it in the map then past it in my map... figured it out!

FIX:
Copy + Paste an object in any map, then go to your map and you can add from the text file.
