Title: [SOLVED] New to model editing - tips, help?
Post by: eratoc on December 05, 2013, 02:30:35 am
Hello!

I wasn't really interested in model editing back in 2006, now I play on a private 1.12 server and the idea to create "my own" world in the game makes me very excited.

Anyhow, so far I've been reading up on alot of old guides and such. Spending hours on failing and some succeeding aswell. But I only know the basics so far.

My latest project is areatriggering, my first intention was instance swapping which would also work. But I keep on failing.

So I don't want spoonfeeding, but any kind of help (mini-guide?) in this specific topic would mean alot to me. I've been trying to edit Scholomance so that when I enter the instance, it sends me to Emerald Dream. And I want to learn how to do this, but I cannot find any proper guides for neither this or 'simple' instance swapping.

Thank you,
Eratoc

Well...

I want to swap the instance Scholomance to Emerald Dream, preferably through .dbc editing. I don't have much experience in it, but I think it's possible to edit the areatrigger.dbc file, so that when I enter Scholomance I actually get to Emerald Dream instead. You know what I mean now? :P

Just find Map ID for Emerald Dream, it say is 169, and copy data to to scholomance ID, 289.

And then put edited dbc into Patch for Client and should work.  May not display correct name in character screen though, that is something else.

And this isn't modeling, it's dbc editing.

Oh sorry. Is this the wrong forum then?
I want to learn more then this of course. But this is just something I want to begin with :-)

Thanks for the tip. I always thought it was areatrigger.dbc but it's map.dbc?
Anyways, I downloaded MyDBCEditor now and seems to be a simple yet stable program. Cheers!

Edit; What numbers should I modify here to get this to work? I'll try figure it out.
I got this:
"DBFilesClientMap.dbc has wrong number of columns (found 37, expected 42)"

NEVERMIND - GOT IT WORKING! Thanks.

Sorry for double-post.

I've een trying to swap/switch instance Scholomance to Emerald Dream - I've also followed this guide HERE:

Code: [Select]
Some people originally thought "instance switching" was being able to switch the portals that let you into instances so that lets say the rfc actually sends you to molten core. That is incorrect, what instance switching really is making the inside of an instance into something else.

Just go to the Terrain.wmo and start looking through and switching instances. SchoolofNecromany is Scholomance. And CavernsOfTime is Old Hillsbrad.

I no longer own a copy of WoW so I can't make the speech2.mpq files for you guys so if someone would like to do that and upload it for noobs to use go ahead.

1. Get a BatchRenamer. Should be easy enough to find
2. Get MyWarcraftStudio
3. Open Terrain.wmo
4. Work from there.

Basically all you are doing is taking the files from Old Hillsbrad and Renaming them ZulFurak so that when you go into ZF you actually get Old Hillsbrad.

Keep in my some instances will not work together.
Emerald Dream and SchoolofNecromancy(Scholomance) fits perfectly.

Old Hillsbrad Foothills and Zul'Farrak(I advise you to go FAR into Zul'Farrak before changing otherwise you'll just meet some stupid invisible wall) fits together.

So I renamed all EmeraldDream_xx_xx.ADTs to SchoolofNecromancy_xx_xx.ADT, but the only problem is that Scholomance contains 16 .ADT files, while Emerald Dream has 256 .ADT files. No one who knows the solution?

Thankful for help.
