Noggit SDL 3.1021 BETA

Finally Noggit SDL 3.1021 BETA is there!
The most important change is probably a fix of the well known model bug as well as the removal of the requirement to fill all four layers.
But here's a approximate changelog:

You can download Noggit SDL 3.1021 with all needed .dll files from here: https://mega.nz/#!qU01SZ4Y!YQvbjXQTo2_a ... 0AaINbzXq0 (https://mega.nz/#!qU01SZ4Y!YQvbjXQTo2_aAG1zqw_QL3ervYvy-YRWp0AaINbzXq0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)

Have fun and happy modding!

EDIT: Be careful, Steff warned me that there are some untested things in the SDL branch which could lead to bugs. If you can find any, please report them!

Guys... Guys... GUYS... I already gave up on hope that even major part of those things will ever get fixed. You have surprised me indeed, well done and thanks a lot.

Yes be carefully the first weeks. I was not asked before release and most stuff was not tested.
ADT unloading could unload changed tiles for example. If you see any problems post them here.

Wow thank you so much to the whole team for all the bug fixing ! :)

I unfortunately can't test now because of PC problems, but I'll report bugs when I can.

This fixed the bugs i was dealing with involving disappearing models when saving so I am VERY happy! unfortunately now there's landscape issues with mine (may be something i've done) where some of the adts have black ground instead of the textures they previously had (again pretty sure its on my end, gonna do some more testing to find out)

UPDATE
No idea what I did still but I "Cured" two of the adts in question. still trying to figure out exactly what i did.

SOLVED sorta
I decided to load it up in an older version of noggit, so i found the oldest one i used mainly for landscaping and loaded it up, changed a few features on all the effected adts, and saved it. Loaded up in this version, PERFECTO!! everything was as it should be! no idea why it changed or what was so special about that version, its the SDL 1.1 from Apr 30, 2012, and I can provide a copy of it if needed for further research. My landscape is back to normal so my concern with it is over!

All in all a wonderful release, I had no trouble adding and modifying water to exactly what I wanted, I'm not losing any more wmos when I save it, no random holes are appearing in the landscape, its just wonderful. Thank you all so much for your hard work in this release!

Seems like we found the first new bug in this version.
For some people (including me :( ) the tilsets/textures aren't loading as intended. It will only load the tilesets on the current adt instead of all in the game. And if you want to load a specific set by clicking on "Load tileset", it will only show "expansion02dragonblight".

I'm not the only one who encountered this: http://www.model-changing.net/forums/to ... mment=2034 (http://www.model-changing.net/forums/topic/220-release-noggit-sdl-31021-beta/?do=findComment&comment=2034" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)

EDIT: I can't find any commit messages which said that he changed something with texture loading. Is it really a bug or are we both just stupid? s:
I've downloaded a completely fresh enUS client, will try at with my deDE client when i'm at home.

The texture manager was not changed as fare I know and I wirk now for testing with this version and had no issu like this. Loading all and loading per zone works fine here. Try t once without any custom patch loaded. Perhaps there are bugged textures in one of them.

The thing is: I've downloaded a completely untouched 3.3.5 enUS client. There are no custom patches (yet).
I'll test it today with my deDE client.

Sounds like an issue with listfile loading.

Schlumpf and me found what's wrong: A commit fucked up listfile loading somehow (probably threading problems). I reverted the commit and uploaded a new version. You can find it in the starting post or here: https://mega.nz/#!qU01SZ4Y!YQvbjXQTo2_a ... 0AaINbzXq0 (https://mega.nz/#!qU01SZ4Y!YQvbjXQTo2_aAG1zqw_QL3ervYvy-YRWp0AaINbzXq0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)

Should there be a Tablet control toggle for Blur/Flatten and 3-D Paint?  I can't seem to change the Blur radius or 3-D paint pressure values.  Or am I missing the obvious, somewhere.  I did turn off the tablet function under the Raise/Lower Panel, and the parameters in that panel are all adjustable but that doesn't seem to transfer to the other 2.

As far as i know the tablet control isn't fully implemented yet. You probably have to deactivate/deinstall your tablet driver if you want to work with your mouse instead of your tablet. But i never used a tablet in combination with Noggit, so i can't really tell you if this is the solution. If it's not, ask Skarn because i know that he knows a workaround.

It is just bugged for those people who have the driver installed. I have already reported the issue.

Wait, what is the branch with the QT thing, is it being switched from its current base to QT? Or am i just misunderstanding the branch name.

Edit - After going back a few pages it looks like its a bump to QT V5?

This new release just made my day. Love you all.

I just wish the controls for moving around the map were different. I'm kinda hating them, e.g. pressing LMB+RMB will start moving forward. How do i stop? I can slow down with O and go faster with P. But why can't i just stop? I also pressed some of the ASDW combo while moving and now LMB+RMB won't work anymore and i'm stuck somewhere, can't move, only rotate. Also ASDW isn't really nice for left-handed people like me. I would definitely appreciate if there was a possibility of changing the key bindings via options or just making it easier by default, e.g. movement with cursor keys (forward, back, left, right), etc. Hopefuly it's not just me who simply can't stick to the current controls setup...

We intend to do customizable key bindings in the future. Doing so in the current setup of configuration would be a pain though, so this is kind of postponed to the Qt branch.

Right. I do understand that key bindings weren't the most important thing to do so far. Very happy to hear that you have plans for them though and that's more than enough for an answer for now :)

Agreed, I have no idea if that is even possible, but that would really be amazing and helpful to gather as many tools as possible simply in Noggit, i'd certainly love that.

Great job on the release though, keep up the awesome work :) can't wait to try this one out :D

No. Still wotlk version. But you can use it and convert the files afterwards.

Thing is I want to restore Lordaeron with noggit and transferring that from a wotlk noggit wouldn't work so ima have to wait till the WoD version comes out.

Just out of curiosity, how far are you from releasing 1.5 version which would be (at least by Noggit standarts) considered to be stable?
Title: Re: [Release] Noggit SDL 3.1021 BETA
Post by: schlumpf on August 10, 2016, 12:03:11 am
There is currently nobody working on it.

There is also no release plan, so even if someone was working on something, that wouldn't mean 1.5. If you want to help, try creating an issue with a plan of what to do for it and stuff.

Post by: Amaroth on August 10, 2016, 12:21:07 am
Well, the last released version is 3.1021, but I've got 3.1161 on my computer and I suppose there's even newer version in repo, so thats mainly why I ask.
Title: Re: [Release] Noggit SDL 3.1021 BETA
Post by: schlumpf on August 10, 2016, 09:53:06 am
Note that the big difference in version number there is mostly due to qt branch commits. Not that much happened in the SDL version.

Unless there are automatically deployed builds, I'm not a fan of pushing out builds just for the sake of it. Some plan as to what should be included or fixed really should be done. Note that I would be shit at it as I don't even know what NoggIt currently _can_ do, even less what the biggest issues or feature requests are.

I am aware of that. And if you remember, I have even replied to them. I'm not really working on the SDL version though, so I'm not paying a lot of attention to features and bugs there. It also is no priorization, and someone who doesn't use the software at all (me) should really not do that.

People who develop tools like Noggit often do not use them themselves. It is a big problem actually. Programmers sadly are often bad at design (no offense, it is just a common situation) and they have no interest of using things aimed for designing. :(

Sometimes I telling myself noggit would need a restart, since moving SDL version to Qt.
Wouldn't be best to restart it?

PS: I didnt use noggit for 3 years.. Just watching news and videos

It needs developers either way, and there are only short episodes of motivation. Restarting takes even more time and energy, and fails just as well as seen in cromon's projects.

Cromon always start a new project and then left him after 2-3 months.. but at least he has some knowledge to make something in 2-3 months

I know this is kind of old, but I believe I can help the people still having the issue described in the quote above.

The problem only happens to those that have a pen tablet installed on their PC: if you don't have a pen tablet driver installed you shouldn't have the issue described in the quote above.

So first of all, to work in Noggit you have 2 choices:
1) work with a mouse and a pen tablet connected.
2) work just using your mouse (without a pen tablet connected).

[1] WORK WITH MOUSE & PEN TABLET CONNECTED
If you do want to use a pen tablet (I do use a Wacom Intuos 4) simply plug it into your pc, run Noggit, and you will see that all the controls for "Raise/Lower", "Flatten/Blur" and "3D Paint" are driven by the tablet pen pressure. So everything works fine using the pen tablet.
Also bear in mind that keeping the pen tablet connected doesn't prevent you from using your mouse as well (if/when needed).
However bear in mind that in this setup (tablet/mouse) using the "Flatten/Blur" and/or the "3D Paint" with the mouse still have the bug of the not working Pressure (that however work with the pen tablet).

[2] WORK WITH MOUSE ONLY (WITHOUT A PEN TABLET CONNECTED)
If you do want to use a pen tablet and you prefer to only use your mouse you will experience the issue described in the quote above if you have a pen tablet installed on your pc. The fix however is pretty simple: to get all the controls for "Raise/Lower", "Flatten/Blur" and "3D Paint" to work correctly with the mouse you have to stop the tablet service in the Windows Services (in my case the "Wacom Professional Service").
I always did that with Noggit closed and it always worked: so just in case, close Noggit, go to your Windows services, find the tablet service and stop it, then launch Noggit again and now all the controls for "Raise/Lower", "Flatten/Blur" and "3D Paint" should work properly with the mouse as well.
[NOTE] Bear in mind that whenever you want to use your pen tablet again (for example to paint something in Photoshop) you will have to restart the service.

I hope this helps. ;)
