Title: [SOLVED] [QUESTION] Noob Looking for direction
Post by: Hidegitsu on March 31, 2013, 10:41:34 pm
Hello everyone,
I am trying to extract wow maps for use in porting to another game. I need some direction on how to do this. I have gotten a working private server up and running for version 3.3.5a and can pull whatever I want out of the mpq files. The problem I'm having is I can't seem to import into max as all of the scripts I have found don't work. Any advise or direction would be much appreciated. I am also willing to help out around here as I am quite good with Databases, SQL, modeling, texturing and modding in general even though I haven't modded wow I am still willing to help out wherever I can. Thanks a lot and I look forward to being part of this community.

I almost forgot, Here is a screenshot of my most recent mod, this is the Temple from Goldeneye 64 in Unreal Tournament. Just imaging how cool it would be to play a shooter in Thunderbluff or Warsong Gultch. I'll post it all here when It's finished.

... I am not sure how I should interpret this but... let's just say, go for one of the ADT converters, look how it calls the structure and try to create a converter. We have none of that stuff at our disposal.

I remember seeing an Arathi Basin map for Battlefield 2, you should look up the map and it's creators.

Thanks alot guys, I am gonna make the maps anyway just like the goldeneye maps (which I couldn't rip) I can just recreate it. I have a private server so worse case I can load both games on screen and do a visual comparison. This is slow and painful but it works. I was just looking for an easier way if it was available. I was thinking about looking over the source of one of these file viewers to see what I can figure out. If I come up with such a tool I will be more than happy to share it and help out the community.

Look in the machinima scene. I have seen once an adt in 3d studio. So perhaps this way will help you.

Yes someone I work with gave me this same advise today. I found a machinima tool that allegedly will export but it cost 20 bucks.(that's not a lot i know but i don't wanna buy something that doesn't do what I want) I can't justify spending 20 bucks on a machinima tool when all I want is to export models not make movies.

Thanks again guys.

BTW- That Battlefield mod looks very cool. Basically the same thing i'm doing but with a different game. Thanks for sharing.
