Title: [QUESTION] Darker nights
Post by: Sina on November 02, 2011, 10:16:10 pm
I just wanted to know if anyone know how to get nights more dark (or where to search about this).

I heard that the nights were more dark in Classic or Alpha but it had been changed because of gamers which could just start gameing late.

That would be really cool for an RP-Realm, so you had a realistic "stealth"-system, more use for lights, etc, etc, etc.

Thanks for reading so far (:

Sina

P.S.: No, I don't want to make my screen all dark just for me, that would also effect the lamp my char is holding. Also I want all players to got this darker nights and not to be turned off easily.

Well the easiest solution I can come up with, is probably skyboxes. However I'm not sure if its possible to have different skyboxes at night, as well as day, or if that has to be hardcoded into the client... Take a look at it though : p

Thanks

There are different values for the 4 time periods as know.

There are up to 12 or 24 possible pairs of time and value for all sky parameters. They also dont have to be in 1/x steps but can be all chosen freely.

I hope it can be solved by the skybox.

Had to test it but I don't think I'll got enough time the next weeks (had to make a new skybox, including it in the game,...). Would be cool if someone who worked more with skyboxes take a look : D

As not, I'll see later ^^
(thanks so far :) )

What schlumpf said. He tends to know everything ;D
It sounds logically, so I'd give it a try, if I were you :p

Thanks

I want to integrate into noggit. But .... time.
The sky box locations are already shown in the map. The white dots.

Skybox Editor is another good tool, you can change colours of time, so you can easy change the grade of darkness for the night and you can change the fog. So it is very easy and very fast, make my swamp a lot darker than the swamp of sorrows  :D

@ProVice: Could you post a link. And perhaps a tutorial in the fitting section for this app?
Would be nice.

There's a pack you can download which applies an overlay on your screen, which highlights "lighter" areas and dampens the "darker" areas in-game. Works on all patches I suppose.

DEMO; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1htaYhzLeZg (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1htaYhzLeZg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)

Alternativelly;

Go into Duskwood, stand beneath a tree or something and just slightly adjust your contrast to keep that shimmering glow fro myour lantern ;)

("Adding a link for the pack as soon as I find it")
WARNING!: THIS WILL CAUSE LAG IF YOU'VE GOT A "NOT SO STRONG"-COMPUTER!

I know about the ENB-Series and what to change on my PC (: but this won't help anyhow

I hate to necro such an old post, but I stumbled across this. I played with Lights for awhile last night and only got this far:

I'm still trying to enhance it though so its better and glows around other sources and not just yourself.

I also stumbled across all this while doing so, haha.
