Title: [Showoff]4 Chunks of A'meron Isle
Post by: Solarion on June 13, 2012, 10:10:11 pm
This is my second world build. The first one was yesterday. This time however I am planning to extend this one.

Please state anything you don't or do like. I want the real opinion of everyone so to improve my skills.
Thanks, Solarion!

It looks really great, just like MoP down sized.

I just love these bushes on the hills, they give the whole scenery a better look, because it looks more natural with some wild growing bushes and flowers there.

Considering that you just started, I certainly have to commend you. This is quote good and nicely done. Would love to see more, keep the good work up and stay enthusiastic! ;)

Well its a nice start but... 4 chunks and you want a opinion of that?
Sorry but that is like drawing a thumb and asking a opinion on your skills of the understanding of the human body ;)

The thing is with worldbuilding: yes small areas are very fast and easy to create. You can also put much detail in it.
But doing something like this as bigger areas is something compleatly diffrent.
You also missed out that you still have to be able to fight ingame in an area like this. Considering that there are everywhere models, which obstruct you sight, will make an area if it is too cluttered unplayable.
Same goes for the ground, if it is too hilly, it just feels strange if you walk over it.

And on the textures, you could try to paste them not so thikly on it ;) It looks better if there is a transition between the basic texture and your above layered. The best results to get a good transition is to lower the pressure when you are painting and reducing the brush size to very small , and painting very small dots.
Have a look at the blizz adts ;) they do it all the time.

Keep on going, but also try out to make bigger areas, which will also teach you something about worldbuilding as you get to know how much work it actually is to do this on a much much lager scale ;D

Hmm I'd like to fingerpoint a few issues, that I had myself at one point which are:

The colourpalette is cramped together really tight, which adds to the messiness of doodads that's going on.

It's important to understand that it has to look clean for the eye, not being something where your brain says "ok i'm outta here" when you see it :) - Eluo pointed out the rest of it, but please understand it's for constructive critism, there are some important fingernotes to use whilst building a world, one of them being simplying the design while not leaving out great detail. ofcourse that's all something to learn, which is why i'm pointing it out for you :)

thanks for the tips guys.

@Eluo: I just didnt want half visible flowers from the texture so I maxed the pressure and such. I placed ivy bushes all over grass from one side and 1 side i left like this. the zone is meant for exploring only. and thanks. It did take me a lot of time. But for bigger zones I will need to learn how to place water and to correctly make realistic mountains and hills...which idk atm.

@Elinora: thanks, I'll try not to spam so many objects but to cover all sides of a hill with bushes when i can barely see if it touched the wall or not its hard to use fewer objects.

@Vel: thanks :P and no I'm not russian. I'm Bulgarian.
