It's very simple, and it's been said before, but not officially explained in a thread. I searched for about an hour to try and find the fix before running across this post in this thread by Elinora in 2012:
viewtopic.php?f=48&t=1782&hilit=noggit+crash+wmo (http://modcraft.io/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=1782&hilit=noggit+crash+wmo" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)
So that nobody else has to spend all that time wasting trying to find the fix, I'm reposting it here, using Elinora's exact words:
to make it work from the import option you simply spawn a m2
Then copy the m2
Then spawn a wmo ontop of the m2 you just copied
Now everytime you copy a WMO, you have to move the copied version of the WMO, otherwise it disappears when you quit noggit.
Also if you add a wmo from the import option without spawning it while selecting a m2, then it will be invisible and crash the game client when you try to enter the world in-game.
And there you have it. Simply spawn an M2, copy and paste the new M2 next to it, delete the old M2, select the new M2, and spawn your WMO. From there you can delete the M2 and move your WMO whereever you want.

This bug is fixed in 1.2?
You dont need this copy stuff anymore. Was a problem in 1.1

I didn't get the memo, and if it's fixed in the new version, you should update the Noggit tutorial's toolpack.
-
If you try to say that theisnt included in the pack youre wrong. newest noggit version
-
If you meen the Modcraft Tutorial pack. There the newest version SDL 1.2 is in.

All WMO's are still crashing noggit for me in 1.2. The m2 cop trick doesn't work.
If there is a newer version of noggit where this is fixed, please make a mac version!!
Happy to be modding again :)
EDIT: Some of them work.
