[SHOWOFF] Super Mario Model Swap
« on: November 06, 2013, 08:13:51 am »
At the moment it's using a simple dwarf male skeleton/animation set, simple because it only has animations for walk/run/die, mount, swim, and that's it I think, it doesn't have sit.  I used it because it was the easiest one to go through and figure out, it had 70 bones, all other more complicated models had almost 200 bone rigs.  Hands aren't rigged yet and the glove itself isn't welded to the wrists yet., that's 11 bones per hand that I really don't want to tinker around with anytime soon.

The Model is at 2.00 scale on purpose, because he looks like a hyperactive midget otherwise, his animations move too quickly basically. I'll probably make some custom sized weapons for the morph later so it would fit.

Model is from Mario Party 8, downloaded from:  http://www.models-resource.com/wii/mari ... odel/6682/

Total Work time so far: 27 hours on and off.
Tools used were Cinema 4D R12, Blender 2.49b, M2Mod4, 010 Editor.

Thanks to Soldan for his help on the car projects previously to this which helped out tremendously when I took on this task.

Thanks to ToxicDev for his suggestion to use the Dwarf model's skeleton rather than a Gnome's.

Looks good. Doesn't really fit well into the WoW style but is funny.

Here's another out of place mod:

Starfox Arwing!!

And I fixed/rigged his hands... though they aren't attached to his wrists still, will take care of that later.

Whilst mods like this doesnt necessarily fit into WoW, they do allow us to observe and experiment with the models in the wow engine, so its funny, i'd never use it myself, but I still like the fact that you're experimenting with alternative shapes and textures.

Currently studying Game Design at Copenhagen University. I also have a big project going on, sadly I have no portfolio of it (yet).

Thanks for checking it out Miss Legend Elinora. :)  The crew I'm with are trying to get out of doing only WoW-Like mods for WoW, but naturally the majority tends to think we are retards and a waste of space because we think outside of the normal bounding box. ^^....But how most people are, they tend to only expect and only do mods for a game if it's fitting for a game's nature.  Such as when I started swapping out Driver models in my Need For Speed Mods, people weren't taking a simple driver swap too nicely.

Same sort of thing happened there, people were like and still are, THAT'S NOT NEED FOR SPEED, THAT'S NOT RIGHT, blah blah blah.  And it tends to happen with the WoW and WC3 community as well, but less so in WC3, when we go out of the lines of normality people freak out and start backlashing.

But things like this are the TRUE INTENT of modding.  We don't mod and tweak to make something WoW like, we break the rules to see what we can do.

Never focus on what something is, but rather what it can become.

I honestly looked at this model and laughed, thinking now about how to do a spell that would modify size and proc it on hit to shrink mario...

Super Mario Wailing Caverns anyone...
